Privacy Policy

This policy describes how the Stop Yapping — AI Translator browser extension (the "extension") handles information. It applies only to the extension.

What the extension does with your information

The extension has a single purpose: to summarize the web page you are currently viewing, on demand, using an AI provider that you configure. To do that it handles three things:

• Your API key. When you enter an API key for a provider, it is saved locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local. It is sent only to the provider you selected, as the authentication credential for your own account, and only when you press Summarize.
• Page content. When you press Summarize, the readable text of the current page, along with its title and URL, is sent to the AI provider you selected so it can produce a summary. This happens only on that explicit action.
• Your settings. Your chosen provider, model, summary style and language, and display preferences are stored locally in chrome.storage.local.

A copy of the most recent summary is cached in memory-only session storage (chrome.storage.session) so the popup can show it again. That cache is cleared automatically when you close your browser.

What the extension does not do

• It does not collect or transmit your data to the developer. The developer has no server and never receives your API keys, the pages you summarize, or any usage information.
• It does not track your browsing, build a history of the pages you visit, or run in the background on pages you have not asked it to summarize.
• It does not contain advertising, analytics, telemetry, or tracking pixels.
• It does not sell or rent your data to anyone.
• It reads a page's content only when you click the extension on that page.

Third parties

The extension sends your request to the AI provider you choose (for example Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek, Google, Groq, OpenRouter, Mistral, or xAI), or to a custom endpoint that you configure yourself. That provider processes the page content and your API key under its own privacy policy and terms. Please review the policy of whichever provider you use. The developer of this extension is not affiliated with, and does not control, those providers.

Permissions

• activeTab — read the current tab, only after you click the extension.
• scripting — inject one small readability function into that tab to extract its readable text.
• storage — save your settings and API keys locally on your device.
• Host access to provider APIs — send your summarization request to the provider you selected.
• Optional host access — granted only by you, at runtime, if you configure a custom or local endpoint.

Data retention and deletion

The developer retains nothing, because nothing is collected. Information stored by the extension (API keys and settings) remains in your browser until you remove it. You can delete it at any time with the Delete all keys and settings button on the extension's settings page, or by uninstalling the extension, which removes its local storage.

Security

Your API keys are stored in your browser profile and are not encrypted at rest. Anyone with access to your device and browser profile could read them. We recommend using API keys scoped to this purpose, with spending limits, and rotating them if your device is shared or compromised.

Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used solely to provide the extension's single purpose, is not transferred to third parties except as needed to provide that purpose at the user's request, and is never used for advertising or to determine creditworthiness.

Children

The extension is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "last updated" date.
